Well technically they weren't complete.....Missing the front sight blade. And I bet the condition of the original 8 is substantially worse than the condition of the shortened one.

Which probably doesn't bode well for those of us that gambled on the original 8.....

No I didn't. The Krag in the picture looked pretty tough and it was a 98 with a 96 sight. I think that once a newer sight was developed older versions were not used on later rifles during rebuilds. In other words I'd expect a 1898 Krag to have a 98, 01 or 02 sight but not a 96 sight. Likewise I'd expect an 1896 Krag to have a 96 or any of the aforementioned later sights installed. And that got me wondering about the post govt parentage of Dupage's Krags, but I could be wrong.

Some 1898 Krag's were issued with 1896 Rear and Front sights. I know that this practice was going on in some 1899 production. Advanced collectors will be able to add more to this.
The hand guard on that rifle shown is for a carbine though.

I am not expecting much, but it was only $400 and it fills a hole in my collection. When I was at the AMC class in January, they showed us a handful of Krags that they had gotten back as part of the honor guard M1 trade out program they have going. It makes me wonder if these are of the same origin, if not the same rifles. Better ones going to auction and others to the resale market.

The CMP and Dupage have been known to trade inventory, so could be possible

Sent you a follow-up PM with address. Thank you very much.
