I just called about them. Supposedly from a private seller; covered in cosmoline, condition grades only as "Good".

Likely a crapshoot, but if you don't play you can't win.

Sort of like the CMP smallbore rifles.

Living close to SOG I just picked one up today.Just got it out of the box, pictures soon. Stock is rough but can be cleaned up. Most parts match numbers though some parts do not. Right side has some pitting left side with markings look clean.

It is a BNZ 42.

Has anyone purchased a k98 from Mitchells Mausers? I have considered one from them as they always look pretty nice in their pics.

aljkw,

I would say that is about right for a $289 K98 rifle. I'd take that, especially since it is a BNZ 42.

I will have to post some more (and better) pics when I can clean it up. Lots of grease and grime over everything. This is my first Mauser, will have to store it on the other side of the cabinet away from the Garands.

That's gonna need some serious cleaning for sure, but I took the risk and ordered one yesterday too. Will be interesting to see what comes in the box.

I called, but they will only sell to a dealer... that would make my costs go higher on a sight un-seen rifle... they are still available though.

Hey if you buy two good ones and want to part, let me know, otherwise, lets see the pics!

Like Miltech and others, a "pretty gun" which has little collector value and will probably sell at a fraction of what you paid.
