The heavy barrel arrived. It looks like the unertl is a 1 in. 10x scope that is 21 1/2 in long. Do not know if this is a target or not. Will try to post photos.

Where can I find info on dating The Winchester Heavy barrel? This one goes not have “nickle steel” “for smokeless powder”

Finally it has a Lyman 77r front globe sight, when did Lyman introduce those?

Thanks Stan

Lyman introduced the Model 77 Target Front Sight in 1938. It was in production until the late 1970's. This information is from the book Old Gunsights by Nick Stroebel.

Winchester started using nickel steel in 1895 and changed to proof steel around 1930. Most of the information is on the lever actions. Here is a link to one discussion on the cast boolits forum.
