Every Carbine was involved in the defeat of the forces of the Axis Powers. I like to think mine was carried by one Marine uncle on Iwo and another Marine Uncle in Korea. If only they could talk.

Default Gee...

Just as soon as I can get to it, I am going to take one of my Carbines down, grab a Bayonet, and INSCRIBE the same thing into it.

This could have been done by anyone at anyplace at anytime.

A name and service number would be more credible. When you see those type notes inside buttplates it's more believable.

Still, nice going on finding it.

I have an old canteen that was in my dad's camping/hunting stuff. It has, scratched very faintly into the aluminum on the backside, "GERMANY, FRANCE, PANAMA CANAL, PHILLIPINES, LUZON, BELGIUM, FORT SHERIDAN, CAMP ABBOTT, CAMP ADAIR," and several other names that are about worn off. Gotta wonder about it, who did the scratching and why, where it's really been, etc. The bottom of the canteen is stamped "U.S. GP.&F.CO, 1943".

Look into what you can find. I doubt someone pulled that stock off after it came back for rework, forgot the name for it, and scratched that in. I'm a retired guy, not by choice, and I'd help, loads of time, but have no idea where to get the info to look. You've have something that most of us wished we would find, and you have one with a specific place and time.
Congratulations.

I found something similar. Just the other day I was cleaning a stock and found the word "Gullible" carved on the inside. I'd take a picture but there aren't enough hours in the day for me to have the time.
