Its not a supply issue as they are shipping more than ever, its a surplus issue. Too many buyers

Alright, I can't even let this go. I was holding one of these carbines with this very hang tag - the rear flip sight wasn't even a high quality reproduction. It was one of those really poor repos you find on ebay. The barrel had an easy to spot barrel band shadow, irrespective of the attempt to cover it up and worst of all, the import mark under the barrel had been lightly filed down. And the asking price - $3,000. At least the type I barrel band looked legit.

Okay, I got it out of my system now. Sorry to jump this thread with my rant. I'll try and step away from the computer keyboard now.

I'm seeing guys pull the original stocks off and replacing them with those cheapo plastic looking wood stocks with no cartouches naturally. Just parting out all the cool parts and selling them on e-bay. Damn"Entrepreneurs"! They take these rifles with a character and soul and neuter them. Has anyone seen those new "M1 Carbines" for $350 in the gun stores? yeech!

I do think 8 a year per person is absurd. Maybe 8 per lifetime or something.

First the CMP limit is 12 per year not 8.

Second you are free to order all 12 today if you want, no one is stopping you.

CMP is in the business of selling rifles to anyone who can legally buy them to fund their mission of promotion of the shooting. They just want to sell product so if you want a rifle or 12 rifles this year place your order and they will fill it, I don't see your gripe.

There have been hundreds of threads about people buying rifles and then selling them, yes it's not supposed to happen. CMP knows about and decided not to do anything about because they want to sell rifles not be policeman.

So, my advice, order now, order often and then wait for the BWT.

John

If you are a young or middle age guy get your Garand orders in before too much time passes. There are only so many of these that will come on the market thru CMP in the future and that number is really unknown. Drag your feet for a few years and you will end up paying some scalpers price if your really decide too late.

Actually, you are incorrect. The CMP is in "business" for the following: "
The Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) is a national organization dedicated to training and educating U. S. citizens in responsible uses of firearms and airguns through gun safety training, marksmanship training and competitions. The CMP is a federally chartered 501(c)(3) corporation that places its highest priority on serving youth through gun safety and marksmanship activities that encourage personal growth and build life skills".

Don't see gun sales on there.

Secondly
The only reason you buy 12 a year is that you are a profiteer. Plain and simple. Again that many per year is absurd.

Wasn't the original limit one per lifetime?

I think the government is in so much trouble financially that they will do anything to make money.

Detroit is the beginning, what other city/state is next?

When I was driving the NYSP would hide almost anywhere to get their ticket allotment in. They know their jobs depend on how many tickets they hand out. Quite a great life we have carved out for ourselves here in the used to be great state of NY.

I'm not going to get into a shooting match over this. I've said my piece and I'm not going to carry on about it. The stacks and stacks of CMP cases at gun shows are all the proof I need.
