Hello OldEyes and welcome from another pair of old eyes from SW Texas.
Every M1 purchase is as exciting as the first, just like Christmas as a kid.
Very exciting and a lot of fun.
Have a good one and happy shooting.

Default new too

Just joined this site myself from Los Angeles. I am in the breech of deciding what Garand to get. It will be my first semi auto. Service grade? Special grade? or Service grade with new walnut? Any thoughts on the subject would be appreciated. Thanks

Greetings Caribouriver and welcome to the forum. Probably the best advice you will get from most of the members would be to get the best one you can afford. From my personal experiences, I can tell you that you will not go wrong with a service grade. I got a service grade HRA and SA and a rack grade of each, and the service grades by far were the best, even the stocks were much better. I don't know what they are sending out now, as I got these a few years ago, but they probably aren't much different. I would suggest going with the service grade and you will probably get a nice rifle. You could always put a new stock on it later if you so desired, but get a service grade and you will not be sorry.
Good luck and happy shooting.
