Default 5.7 HRA with 11/55 barrel

This is 5,70x,xxx H&R with barrel on it. It looks like it is really late for the H&R production but the barrel has "11-55" on it. I cannot find this date on any reference material. Most are "5-55". Plus it doesn't have a "D" in front of the production number.

I would say that this rifle has never been messed with at an arsenal because of the lack of arsenal marks.

It has an ME/TE of 2 and 1 and came from the CMP as a service grade. Trigger housing in a Winchester but everything else is pretty much early Springfield.

Any comments?

Not sure where you looked but in Duff's little blue book of SN's and data sheets shows HRA 5703096 with a 11-55 barrel. So yours sounds correct.

I looked in "The M1 Garand 1936-1957" by Joe Poyer and Craig Riesch

I don't think the book is as complete as I would like to think that is.

Not to worry.

Mine is 12-55. It's serial # 5712703.

Some of the industrial histories (other than Duff) seem to have "factual eccentricities" and omissions.

The idea that original barrels and receiver contract delivery dates coordinate 100% and in exact order is interesting, but only very partially accurate. That's why that term "contract delivery date" is important.
