Kidding... My advice though, if you have or plan on having kids, buy their guns now. Not just Garands, all of them. They won't be any cheaper or easier to get in the future.

Better yet, a program that allows juniors to purchase a night force at a discount? Or for middle aged competitors who were below the poverty level last year?

Mr Johnson:

You certainly are a "glutton-for-punishment."

So along with getting beaten up over:
-the North store vs South store.
-the "buying agent" whining.
-the mail order vs "the lucky ones" who live nearby the stores.
-the "why can someone buy XX of xx from the CMP only to sell it at a profit" discussion.
-the "I didn't miss" but I got scored a miss at the TMP.
-the "tent sale" vs auctions of past.
-the "Bill ordered a Rack grade rifle and its better than the Service grade I got" whining.
-"How come the CMP prices are so low vs why are they so high?" arguments.

You are thinking of adding this can-o-worms to the mix?

I haven't seen a junior shoot an M1 for............ well..........ever. I sincerely can't think of a time ever when I saw a junior shooting an M1.

So a junior will buy an M1 and either give it to the person who actually put up the money for it or will sell it him/herself for an AR.

Either way the M1's will sell and adoptions of juniors will sky rocket......
Service Rifle.... RIP .... 1884-2015

I need to reserve Garands for future grandchildren. It would be unfair to allow juniors to buy a Garand without allowing for future, unborn, junior shooters!

Alternatively, just lift the 12 Garands per year limit and I will purchase them now in the names of the potential grandchildren.

Keep in mind the "state of affairs " within our media and how it reports news.
They "the media" are low enough to take anything out of context to make a false narrative about the CMP to paint a negative and sinister picture to a really "dumbed down" public about the CMP and its mission.
So as was mentioned above, parents buy the Garands with your sons future in mind.
I did that over the years when the M-1's were plentiful so my kids both boys and girls have a collection for their future collections.

I like the idea and think that it does promote the CMP's primary mission of promoting marksmanship but not sure it would be practical for the reasons already spelled out.
