Default .30-40 Krag Ammunition

One of the limiting factors for the Roosevelt Match is the availability of .30-40 Krag ammunition and brass. Does CMP have any plans to influence any of the manufacturers to produce ammunition (maybe even for CMP to sell)?

I got 10 boxes of prime older 50's made 30-40 for $24 box and was glad to pay it. My favorite seller on GB was getting bids for 2X that box after box after box until he sold all of the case he had

I was in the same predicament until I recently stumbled across 4 boxes of Remington at a gs across town @ $30 a pop. Probably the last 4 boxes in the metro. No big box stores have had any for a while around here, believe me I've looked.

Can't imagine a big box store stocking .30-40 Krag unless the department manager had one.

It's out there, just not in large quantities as mentioned.

Here on the left coast, at the Cross Roads gun shows particularly, one of the big ammo sellers (can't remember their name) generally has 2-3 boxes of Remington each show for $29.99/ea. Not sure how he gets it given limited availability but somehow he does.

I just got into Krags and plan to shoot mine at Camp Perry next year so I just gave up looking too hard for loaded ammo and started reloading my own. At this point my cheap Lee single stage press kit (bought initially to reload Krag) has paid for itself since I load 30-40 and 45-70 with it at 1/3 or less of the cost of loaded rounds.

Also, while brass availability is also an issue it seems to be easier to find than the loaded 30-40 ammo. Obviously, any ammo I do find simply adds to my small stash of brass. I know the profiteers on GB are asking $2+ apiece for Krag brass (which I refuse to pay) but it always seems to pop up in small quantities for reasonable prices if you really start digging.

He may be sitting on a case, but only drags to the show as much as he thinks he can sell that weekend.

I know of three boxes of Remington and one box of Winchester for sale at a local shop for about $40 a box. It has been there for a while.

Well I just checked out gunbroker and the prices have skyrocketed in the past 6 months. The good news is if you have the money folks have brass for sale. Be prepared to spend some serious cash.
