Default CMP, why not auction our guns ?

Dear CMP. I have purchased, over the years, a few high quality collector items from CMP. It is my time in life to pass them on to other collectors. I would like to share the proceeds with CMP and see CMP members have a chance to acquire items that CMP will never see again. Most major auction houses take 10 to 30% for selling guns at auction. This commission could fund the CMP and I would like to see the guns of our elder members come back to our younger members. CMP, please consider opening your auction to select firearms you have sold to us in the past. Freedom.

or you can auction/sell it yourself through any of dozens of venues and send CMP a donation check. That way CMP is not burdened with additional costs and labor

Hello Freedom,
The CMP is a non profit and accepts donations. The CMP's specific charter does not allow them to sell customers firearms on consignment.

GitM. My donation would be a percentage of the sale and any cost to CMP could be billed to me. This would recycle some fine, not to be available again guns. Freedom.

GitM is correct. Just sell it on the forum and donate.

Nonprofits want cash. That's by far the easiest thing to deal with. That's why the Salvation Army asks that you don't put krugerrands or granny's diamond in the kettle. Converting an asset to cash takes time and resources a nonprofit may not have. So cut out the middleman and give them money. Sell them on the WTS board and they'll most likely go to a CMP member.

Heck, you could even post on the WTS boards or gunbroker or wherever and advertise that 10% (or whatever number) of the sale will be donated to the CMP. That might even get more people to bid on it, assuming you used an auction site.

Mo' money for CMP, less headache for CMP... it's a win-win.
