I think I'll get it, given all the positive responses. I will try for the pix, but no promises, since I'm just about maxed out posting email, let alone pix.

There is a river of tears from posters asking about whether such-and-such gun is a good deal; then going back to purchase it only to find that it's gone, like dust in the wind. :-)

Been there...done that.
That's why I take reference material with me when I expect to be going anywhere that has guns for sale. You don't have time to go home and think about good deals.

I hope the OP snags this one.

A typical Winchester mixmaster. When others would ask $1000, that's a bargain.

The last WRA mixmaster Garand to sell on the CMP forums had one Winchester part (receiver), scuffed heel stamp, no other "interesting" parts, no stock markings, $1065 shipped. Sold in one day.

Agree with you. One needs to be prepared to buy. If you don't the seller could change his mind, a neighbor will offer him $20.00 more,brother-in-law decides it should stay in family...it goes on and on. In another instance, your offer turns into a free appraisal.

Thanks for all the help and advise. I did take possession of the rifle for the agreed upon price and am in the midst of cleaning it up and appraising the parts. I have Duff's data book and some other online sites to help with that. I plan on shooting it this weekend and will post a data sheet when I get finished with the above chores. Well, chores is not really a good choice of words. I'm looking forward to it and will have some fun this weekend.
