Narrow base was only made by SA,and WRA.On a narrow base the front sight sits even with the base(or darn near),wide base has extra base to move sight more right or left.

SA and WRA only. Base is the same width as the front sight....no room for windage adjustment.

Wide base:

Notice the width of the dove tail. On a narrow base the front sight fits flush on the base, and with no overhang.

As stated above the base is the same width as the front sight is wide. The rear support ring on early bases are numbered and the later have the normal SA and WRA features, one is ground on top leaving a round appearance, these are WRA and SA's are milled on top and have a small flap spot. This is where the flashing from the manufacture process was removed. There are other less noticeable features but this will tell you quickly whether you have a SA or WAR small base GC.
