    cheap ammo

    I still have cans of that Cheap 8 cents a round Chinese copper washed 7.62 I use for plinking. I think I bought it in the 80s or early 90s. The stuff came in loose in huge boxes. The LGS had a bunch for 8 cents a round and I stocked up. Not as accurate as GI but when plinking at 100 yards its ok.

      The supposed problem was too much port pressure acting on the op-rod.

      There is a very good article about this in the latest GCA magazine. Kind of debunks the problem.

      I would think the White, gas-cut-off system in the M-14 would even be better at controlling port pressure than the direct impingement arrangement in the M1.

      When I competed with the M1A in XTC matches, our loads were anything but "mild".. Might be worth doing some research on this.
      The GCA article you mention was riddled with inaccuracies.
      It isn't a good source for information.
