The '51 HRA barrels are contract barrels made by HRA for replacement purposes. HRA was not contracted to build complete M1 rifles until 1952 and did not deliver any rifles until 1953. The '51 HRA replacement barrels would have been in the system for years and still turn up new in the wrap from time to time till this day. Until recently, a local M1 armorer/dealer had new in the wrap SA barrels dated from '47 to '55. I bought several for rebuilds.
