Default M3 Scabbard

Were any M3 scabbards made without a marking under the throat? I picked up one at an estate sale that came with a 1942 dated M1905 bayonet that is very aged and has all the attributes of a legit scabbard but for the markings. First run?

The M3 scabbards made by Beckwith (BMCo) were, to the best of my knowledge, always marked under the flange of the top plate.

However, those made by Detroit Gasket Manufacturing Co (DGMCo) were not. The marking on the face included a logo symbol to identify them as the maker, so it looks like the one in the photo.

If it does not look like this one, try to post a photo for me.

Gary

Definitely not a Detroit gasket model. Here is a link to pix. Sorry for the poor quality, my digital camera is on the fritz. I have seen and handled many M3 scabbards and this one certainly seems like the real deal but for the BN markings.

Bayonet appears to be original and unmolested - grips are matching Auburn Button, guard and catch are marked OL. Does not appear to have been sharpened.

I have to say that both the bayonet and the scabbard look good to me. I honestly cannot explain the lack of markings under the top plate. Looks like I will have to pay more attention to M3 scabbards from now on in hopes of finding one for myself.

I guess I should keep it then.

Thanks Gary.
