I always had to sign for mine, but then again I had a running problem with FedEx.
They would not even let anyone other than the addressee sign for it.
I changed my deliveries to work, got a different driver, and they let anyone sign for it.
Good luck.

My fedex guy just handed me the box with the comment "it's heavy"
and walked away.

Just received my second box of 22.
The Fedex guy knocked on my door and left the ammo on my porch.
He was gone before I got to the door.

Fed Ex driver up here said "because it's ammo, policy is not to leave it and must get a signature." Huh. Guess it "just depends."

"CMP policy" doesn't govern much when the delivery driver gets to your door. Not with ammunition but I often receive an e-mail telling me that such and so package was delivered, handed to addressee. Never happened, the guy didn't even bother to ring the doorbell. Just set it on the edge of the top step and booked.

Received the .40 I ordered Saturday. Driver met me halfway on my driveway, set it down,
and left. If I wasn't checking my account twice a day, I wouldn't even have known it
was shipped.
I think Fedex has waived getting signatures, keeping the drivers out of contact range
for Covid.
