Default D-Day Match Experience

I had an awesome experience at the D-Day commemorative matches this weekend. It was my second rifle match ever, the first being the Talladega 600 last December.

I fired in the John C. Garand match as well as the carbine match and managed to earn bronze medals in both contests!

If you are hesitant to join in on these experiences because of lack of experience or equipment there is no need to worry. It's a great atmosphere with people willing to help all around.

I shot in a T-shirt (no shooting jacket), I did the prone sections on a yoga mat I borrowed from my wife, and shot the surplus HXP the CMP sells.

It's an absolute blast (yes, pun intended) and worth the time.

Can't recommend the facility or the matches enough!

-Sam

Sam,
Good job keeping it simple and proving that the hundreds of dollars of shooting equipment may be of marginal value.

You may, however, need to go into hiding for a while as the shooting equipment industrial complex will now be looking for you.

Nice work this weekend!

Good on you.

If you stick with it long enough, you will have a jacket and some of the other accoutrements.

By the way, the basic canvas coat sold by Creedmoor is all you need. The heavy padded units may buy a Master a few more Xs in offhand. All they do for the rest of us is empty the bank account and cause heatstroke.
