I was looking over the CMP site and noticed that they're going to open up registration for the SAFS pistol and rifle courses. Is this the best place for a beginner to go? It seems like a good deal, an EIC special match and a free t-shirt.
I have formal Marine Corps rifle and pistol training and have been shooting pistols by myself and in a few leagues for the last 10 years. |

It is the best place to start. That's why they have it. You can also get started with a Garand clinic, and the Special Garand EIC. The good news this year is that the SAFS will no longer be a Camp Perry exclusive opportunity. There will be SAFS training, and Special EIC at the Eastern Games at Camp Butner, NC May 4th to May-12. Check the Eastern Games schedule to see what day it will be, and register for the SAFS. The Butner range is a wonderful place. Hope to see you there.

Its the best place to start and best place to refresh.
I have my DR badge, but I'll sign up for the SAFS when I can anyway. |

Sounds good! I live in Ohio, so perry is actually pretty convenient. I'll be in NC during the eastern games but won't be able to leave work... sadly.
I'm excited to try my hand at this stuff and work toward the DR badge. Just to clarify, "legging out" means getting to the 30 points. correct? |

How much shooting do you do with the SAFS course? Any chance to try full auto or 3 round burst?

Do they provide the rifles for the EIC match after the SAFS?

No you have to have your own rifle for the EIC match. Although I think you can check out an M1 from the CMP but I'm not sure they do that anymore. |
