20 shooters did what more Americans should do these days.....ignored the weather report on their cell phones and arrived at Reade Range for the 4th annual Pa. State GSV Championship match.

Overcast skies greeted the rifleman and at 8:00 AM the National Anthem signaled the start of the day. The cooler temperatures kept the hot competition at a bearable level and the small amount of rain that fell barely slowed the pace. When the last round was fired at approximately 5:00 PM. Tom Morley of Washington, Pa. stood as the 2016 State Champion firing and excellent 847-16, close on his heels was last years champ Mark Holsopple of Wilcox, Pa. with a 840-16, finishing 3rd in his first GSV competition was longtime silhouette shooter Wally Howard of Hazel Hurst, Pa.

This years match saw an almost 30% increase in the level of achievement pins awarded with a total of 28 medals earned.

The individual rifle class wins were split between Morley and Holsopple with Morley winning the M1 and Springfield classes with score of 290-5 and 283-3 respectively and Holsopple the Vintage winner firing a 282-5

A special thanks to Dave Williams for calling the line all day. Dave was recovering from a car wreck and unable to shoot so to be part of the match he volunteered to call the line for us.

Once again Wendy Hemphill and Jennifer Stemerick kept track of the score cards and had the match winners and medal winners ready for us before our hot dogs were digested. Thank you Ladies!

Without the cooperation of everyone involved, this match would be nearly impossible to complete in one day.
Throughout the course of the day I raised the question if the guys still liked this format and the answer was a unanimous Yes!
So gentlemen and ladies regardless of the score you shot take pride in keeping these "wooden legends" active ...see you again next year.
