This is a question for the first timer. What is the bare minimum I need to show up to compete in m9 service pistol and what is recommended.
I'm a big proponent of run what ya bring and figure out what you want/need as you talk to people and move along. Showed up to my first garand match with a garand, chamber marker, and a box of surplus ammo. |

If you mean a regular EIC match; a pistol, two magazines that work, approved ammo, some sort of spotting scope or binoculars to see the hits at 50 yards, hearing and eye protection, a pen to write on the score card, stapler (unless you borrow one from somebody), and a small clip board.
If it's the CMP M9 Special EIC match, they will provide the pistol and ammo.

Plus an empty chamber indicator.

A real good starting point is the Small Arms Firing School. It will give you an opportunity to use the supplied equipment in an EIC match while observing and discussing equipment needs with the coaches.

I knew I would forget something, but I always have extras for shooters who show up without one.
