Default M14 shoot high

I have a CMP M14 Grade A kit that I had built into a Fulton Armory M1A a few years ago. At 50 yards it shoots fine, but at 100 yards, the farthest I can shoot my rifle it shoots way too high. I have to make an effort to aim lower than where I want my round to go at 100 yards. The rear sight is down all the way, and of course the front sight is non adjustable. Maybe I need a taller front sight ? Any reason why I might have this issue ? I never had this issue with my large number of garands...

Sure sounds like a new taller front sight is in order. The good thing is it is an easy change to make. What barrel are you using?

I have a USGI Winchester barrel, early 60's dated, in great condition that I got off the m14 forums some years back.

If it is anything like this one, it will shoot great.

If your handy you could also modify the rear aperture. Just remove it from rear sight base and file down the area that extends forward if the track. This will allow the aperture to sit lower and lower the POI. Should be a bunch of Google photos to show what I'm describing.

How high is it shooting compared to 50 yards?

Well, at 100 yards I was hitting some water jugs with my Garands standing with no issue, aiming center. With the M14 from the bench I would have to aim quite lower than the jugs in order to hit them. Or with my paper targets I would get some "great" head shots when I was aicing center mass.

So let's say you are center mass at 50. Are you saying you are 12+ inches higher that that at 100?

You could try windycitysourcing.com or www.lrbarms.com. LRB has the taller sights listed in their E-Store. I have purchased items from both places and have been pleased with their service and prices.

HTH.
