Default Early M1As

I saw two M1As today, number 11 and a four digit 13xx both for sale. All gi parts but receiver. Man said they were made in texas, would that be corrcet? Both were in excellant condition. Would these have any more value than the later rifles made in Illinois? Asking price was 2500. Sure was tempting but thought I would ask here first for opinions. This would be my first M1A.

Know as a Devine M1A, yes they are worth a bit more. Should be all USGI parts except the receiver.

Devine for Devine, TX where they were built.

there is a section on the m14 forum just for the Devine M1A's, Elmer Balance built them at the time, he's still around and can verify by characteristics on a rifle if it was built by him, worth a bit more than $2500 today

I've been by Elmer's place. Entrance to his driveway has a metal arch the that says Springfield Armory. His shop was in the back.

Was told at my last Collectors Club Meeting that Elmer has his # 1 and #100 for sale . $30,000.00 is his asking price , and he would prefer Silver . I would think # 11 would be a heck of a deal at $2,500.00 . My two cents , Bob

Around 15 years ago, I had a chance to purchase a Devine rifle in the 23xx range for $1600 with a few boxes of M852 Match ammo. I didn't do it and have kicked myself since. Although Devine rifles aren't yet a true rarity, one does not have a chance to buy one of them very often.

If the price is $2500 for both of them you better head back ASAP and buy them.

...if he's asking for $2500 for both, you better ask the law to run those serial numbers
