Default case trimming

I am getting set up to trim 7.62 x 51 Nato for my M1A. Hornady manual says to trim to 2.005. I bought a Lee case length gauge and trimmer and tried a couple of cases. Trim length was 1.985. Which number is correct??
Thanks for your comments.

2.005 is correct but the 1.985 will still be fine to use, just won't have to trim them again. Instead of trimming some 223 to 1.750 I accidently trimmed most in the lot to 1.730. I had no issues with them and never had to trim them again.

I had the opposite problem and stoned the tip of the trimmer to get 2.005.

You might have screwed the pilot in too tight and reduced the case length.

Same here. It's no Giraud 3 way trimmer, but it's still pretty easy and WAY cheaper.

My 308 gauge cuts them back to 2.00, and my .223 gauge cuts them back to 1.748. I usually never have to trim .223 brass again, at least with my mild plinking loads. And I often get anywhere from 2 - 5 firings out of the 308 brass before it needs to be trimmed again, then it's trim one more time, load, fire and toss in the scrap bucket.

Saami minimum is 1.95. Anything above is ok.
