Default winchester m1 carbine

hi i am new here,
I just aquired a very nice m1 carbine in a horse trade. It is a winchester serial #c761897. It has this funky Fajen monte carlo type stock. I want to get the correct stock for the gun. Which stock and what type should i get that will take this back stock, and do it on the cheap. Thanks in advance!

I think the Fajen stock is "correct" for that serial number. Seriously, if you post the correct serial number or a picture of it for your Winchester, you will get a better response.

A correct stock for that serial number would be a low wood oval oiler slot stock marked with a tiny "W" in the sling cutout. If the acceptance mark is still on the stock it would be just the Ordnance crossed cannons on the right side of the buttstock.

It would look like this

Shouldn't it have an unboxed WRA and the cannon cartouche for 5.7 to 5.8?

Yeah, I was wondering that myself. My 5.74 came with a unboxed WRA over GHD cartouche. Also, while we are asking about stocks, when did the 4 rivet hand guard start on the Winchesters?

Thanks

Put up an add in this thread:

http://forums.thecmp.org/forumdisplay.php?f=10

One just might turn up from this forum. If not, put an eyeball on FleaBay (eBay) and GunPoker (GunBroker). Search "M1 Carbine Stock Winchester (or WRA) and see what pops up. Be patient. "...on the cheap..." ??? It will depend on condition. Don't turn your nose up at crappy looking wood until you give it a very thorough analysis. LOTS of good guidance on stock "salvaging" here in these threads.....
