Default 16 inch PAL 1942

Picked up this 16 inch PAL 1942 with scabbard. Has a little rust, on closer look I noticed what looks like a W.E.W. scratched on the scabbard and nicks cut in the tip to create a serrated tip. Has anyone seen this before? Was is a GI thing? I can easily imagine a bored GI doing this. What would you do about the surface rust?

It looks like the small grooves are parkerized. A GI doing this would leave exposed metal.

I wonder if it was poorly ground at the time of manufacture or if a GI did it, it was reparked afterward

Those aren't serrations they are the side effect of a poor attempt to use a grinder to sharpen the bayonet. I would guess that cold blue was used to cover up the shine post sharpening.

Either too coarse a stone or one that was loaded up with garbage.
