Well, Imgur wouldn't let me upload anything for days, but finally I'm up! Here's my new Service Grade I just received this week. I'm pleased as punch, I couldn't have asked for more. SA #95XXX with a SA 9-44 barrel that's just pristine.

Nice rifle sir! I'd love to have a 6 digit SA in my collection! Is that a new CMP stock set? It looks different in your pics. I'd love to see more pictures! Have a look at the one I received on Friday. How did you get that shot down the bore!?

I'll play: My SA FG at a shooting event the day after I bought it last May:

TE=2, ME=2+

There are others like it, but this one is mine!

Default First CMP SG Garand

new to CMP, new to the M1. I could never afford a gun show Garand so I was very happy a fellow at church told me about CMP. I finally received mine and am very proud to own a piece of history. It might be a "beater" but it's fun to plink with. I have no clue as to what all the numbers mean and am waiting for a library xfer for some books (small town library).
the photographs are in no particular order.

My newest service grade in between my other two. A Sept. '42 receiver (806XXX), an IHC oprod, IHC trigger housing, -3 SA hammer, WRA trigger guard, new CMP walnut , an Italian gas cylinder (PB) and an S-A3 bolt (the only thing that "matches" the receiver), and a Springfield NM barrel! A T105 rear sight with DRC windage knob and an "S-SF"? elevation knob. It's flanked by my Aug '41 Springfield SG (306XXX) and my 479XXXX HRA SG. Going to take the new one to the range tomorrow to hammer some steel. Maybe all three! http://s1345.photobucket.com/user/Da...arfbc.jpg.html

I received my first Garand - Service Grade - a couple of weeks ago. It is a Philippine return. The stock was really dirty and grimey. It needed to have the bolt replaced. So after getting it back a few days ago I've been able to disassemble it and work on the wood.

This is the result. Although I think the camera makes the piece look better than it does in real life, I'm thrilled with the net result from the CMP. My objective was to get a good shooter and to own a piece of history. I got more history than I thought I would. (If that stock could talk......) And although I haven't done any serious accuracy testing, it has an ME of 1+, so I'm hopeful.

The bottom line: I'm happier with this acquisition than I thought I'd be. We're fortunate to have an organization like the CMP involved in making these available.

Default 2nd try at posting images here of my 1st CMP rifle.

Fall of 2016 H.R. 5 million serial, 52/53 production.
ME-0 TE-1
SA 55 barrel.
Pristine SG.
This one proved that the Garand bug is very real.
