Hello,

I just joined the forum to learn more about the CMP and my Garands. A couple of years ago on a whim I drove to Anniston and picked out a couple of field grade M1's. I had no idea what I was looking for, but I wanted a piece of history that I could enjoy. I shot the rifles a few times but was never happy with my accuracy. So I put the rifles in the back of the safe and life happened if you know what I mean. For a number of years I've shot IDPA and other action pistol matches. I've even shot a couple of carbine matches (AR carbine not M1 carbine). But the other weekend after a very enjoyable carbine match I got the crazy idea that I should break out those Garands and learn to shoot them. Long story short I ended up contacting Eric Nicolaus and in addition to some excellent advice, he directed me here.

-William

Welcome to the forums. Lot of good info and members that can answer questions. You just might be heading back to Anniston after a spell.

It's the forums/CMP plan to help verify I'am who I sez I'am for the buying/trading/selling listings. Lots of good stuff shows up there.

WEllison, welcome aboard. I see that you are in the upstate. Where do you shoot?

I'm a probationary member of Belton Gun Club and I also use Philson's Crossroads Rifle Range in the Sumter Nat'l Forest. Thanks for the welcome, 12BVet. Where do you shoot?

@jaw1947: Thanks for the clarification.

William, Welcome to the forum. I know it's tough getting to the range with all the other things in life that must be done. With a little work you should be able to get very good accuracy from your M1's in no time. Please keep shooting them. Eddie

I go to the SC DNR range in the Pauline/Glen Springs area. It is a nice, facility with covered benches on the 100 yd and 200 yd firing lines. The range is located on the boundary of Camp Croft. Best of all, use of the range is "free," unless, of course, you count our tax money which goes to operate the range. E-mail or send me a private message if you want driving directions.
