Thumbs up CMP M1917 Eddystone

Hi guys. After having a P-14 Enfield for a while, I just picked up my first M1917 and had a few questions regarding it.

1. The seller provided me with the CMP certificate and it was originally purchased back in February 2009. What price was the CMP charging at that time for a Service Grade M1917? Around $500?

2. While every marked part that I can see appears to be Eddystone, the buttplate has a four digit number on the top that DOES NOT match the receiver. Is this a M1917 buttplate, and if so, were they numbered to match?

That's the only two questions that I had for now. I'm very pleased with the condition of the rifle and am looking forward to shooting it ASAP. The JA replacement barrel looks really good and I'm curious to see if it shoots better than my P-14

Mike

I dont think the but plate was serialized. Here is why I think that part was interchangeable and since these rifles were reworked before WWII that part could have been replaced

Well i just bought one from the cmp for $400 and i think they were about $350 in 2009. I also have a JA barrel and it shoots real good. The only thing is the rear sight is to big so you have to find a good place to line the sights up with. I line up the bottom of the rear with the bottom of the front and centered. This seems to work for me.

You are now allowed to fill the aperture (JB Quick Weld) and redrill to a smaller size. This is an easy fix to a 1917 problem. Good shooting.....
