Default Current M1917 values

Rifle is an Eddystone with most eddystone parts I can see.. bore is mirror bright and sharp rifling tight bore etc.

Normal dings and wear for a 100 year old rifle but most finish is still there just missing the stacking swivel.

Ball park value?

thanks

I would call it something around $700- $750. Some serious sleuthing still finds values lower than that, but it takes a lot of work to do so as well as time (or people who will contact you when they see one).

Premised on history of not having been involved in firing blanks and the throat eaten out. That takes a boro scope or Throat Erosion gauge to be sure.

History would be out of a Legion Hall or any other ceremonial entity that would be present at funerals etc.

Those can look really good and the eroded throat does not show up.

There was a time when every M-17 I saw had a corroded barrel. Since then I've owned several with great barrels. But, make sure you look down the tube or get some assurance before committing.

No corrosion in bore..its about mint. Plenty of M2 ball showing on bullet test.

Throat is what wears out, blanks are the worst but enough shooting and you wear out the throat, i.e. thing called a Throat Erosion gauge (if you reload you can use a bullet as a rough guide as well)

I have a gauge by Steven Mathews that does both ends.

I have yet to see a bad muzzle reading.

I do have my Step Dads fathers 1902 that runs a 5 on the 1- 8 scale, muzzle is fine, like a 2.

Lyman Boro scope would should condition as well but hard to measure how far the throats moved (if it has)

Hot gasses erode the throat , blanks are corrosive.

As majority of what you see is rifling, you can have nice rifling and looks great and a throat that goes past 8 (and yes I have see it)

If this was an owned gun picked up long ago and handed down then likely fine.

I have been lucky, all the ones I got were good TE.

Next thing to buy is Ferris book on the 1917.

He did an excellent job on it. All info is accurate to anything I have found out.

Some stuff missing but he does not speculate.
