This is what I did the first time. I posted where I was from. Then, I posted that if anyone was going to either store from my area, could we possibly ride together, share the gas costs, and then they or one of the "regulars" that sit around all day there could help me pick out what I was looking for. Worked great for me. Perhaps this is what you could do also.

So which grade do I need to fulfill my list?
What do you consider decent accuracy?

Wouldn't that require the notary to forge his signature on the notary log?

I would think it more likely they require notarized copies only for mailed-in orders to prevent fraud. If you're in the store and they can see your ID and the rest of your paperwork, that's good enough for them.

While we're on this topic, as far as stock goes, if I plan on getting a better selection, should I be going in on a Wednesday? Or are rifles put out for sale throughout the week?

With the National Matches going on they seem to be restocking every day. You also might want to check the store schedule before you go.

Hah! If it gets me tight groups at 100yds I would be happy.

The field grades might gauge 3 or more. How much will that affect accuracy?

Doesn't anybody fire their Garands? How do your field grades do at the range?

I didn't mean that was store policy used on a regular basis. I meant that if, because of an oversight, somebody left the store and afterwards they found the form wasn't notarized, they wouldn't send out an APB and make you come back.

Yes, Field Grade muzzles can grade more than three, as I have said before I have seen them gauge 6-7 which would affect accuracy .
Stock fit also has a huge affect on accuracy. FG's will usually have worn loose stocks
Asking how others FG rifles are at the range is no different than asking what do the FG's look like that are being shipped.
You CANNOT judge what you will get by what someone else has received, accuracy wise or cosemetic.
Seems like we keep going in circles on the subject
