Default South Store Visit 10/21/09

Went to the SS to return 2 cans of corroded ammo that I had purchased back in July. There was no problem with the exchange since I had contacted customer service when I discovered the corrosion the following day.

I arrived around 10:30 am on Wednesday and there were only two others in the store. I stayed until 2:00 pm and there were never more than three others there. Basically had the place to myself.

While there I picked up a great looking Quality Hardware SG carbine and a SA RG woodless Garand.

There were about a dozen or so woodless Garands on the rack. All except one swallowed the muzzle gauge. One guaged 1-1.5. It was a SA 3186xxx with a SA 2-52 barrel. The barrel looked very dirty and I couldn't tell if it was pitted but I took the chance based on the MW. After cleaning it looks brand new... bright and shiny, sharp lands and grooves, and a clean crown. All other parts except the bolt were SA including a milled trigger guard. The bolt was HRA. I had recently purchased a Field grade HRA that had a SA bolt. I swapped bolts and both pass the no-go test I already had a stock set and rear sights on hand.

I have cleaned the carbine but have not yet compiled a data sheet. It is a Quality Hardware #1628xxx, undated Rockola barrel and LW-B stock with no cartouche and AAG rebuild stamp.

Now I need an IBM and Irwin Pederson to complete my carbine collection.

There were many FG Garands that guaged less than 2 on MW. So if you don't mind a little "character" wear on the stocks you can find some great shooters. Before this visit the last four Garands I purchased have been hand picked Field Grades. All shoot great.

If planning a visit try to go there on Wednesday as they restock the shelves on Tuesday.

I haven't been to South Store in awhile, but I've made probably a dozen or more visits over the last three years. Not once have I had any reason or desire to complain about the customer service there. From top to bottom, Orest and his team know their jobs and know how to treat their public. Others may not agree, but IMHO they wrote the book on customer service. Thanks -- Orest, Leon, Phil, and all y'all.
