Default Vaver Sights for Win 52B

Guys, I have the opportunity to purchase a very nice Winchester 52B heavy barrel, manufactured in 1937.

The only catch is that it doesn't come with sights. It's set up for a Vaver rear sight for sure. The dovetail on the rear of the receiver is still fitted with the base for a Vaver, with the two screws offset diagonally from each other.

How difficult is it to find a nice Vaver rear sight and matching front globe sight for these rifles that will be ready to go to the range? Searches on the usual auction sites didn't turn up much of anything.

Thanks in advance!
Phillip

Gunny, the email hasn't come through yet. You could try emailing me directly, which might work. The forum's email system might be having some issues.

Email received and replied to!

If anyone can verify that the rear sight base on the rifle is 100% for a Vaver (or another type) I would be very grateful. I've been searching online and I haven't seen one exacty like it:

There are no additional holes in the sides of the base, just on the top of the base.

Also, this rifle does not have the two small sight mounting holes on the left rear side of the receiver like the later 52s had.

Sure looks like a Vaver mount to me. I'll email you a clipping from Old Gunsights and Riflescopes by Nick Strobel which illustrates the 52 models.
Here's Gary Fellers website, your best chance to find a Vaver. He had a very hard to find sight for a Stevens 414.

To answer your question, and unless someone here has come to the rescue, Vaver sights are not easy to find. Of course I've found out that with enough perseverance one can find just about anything, but until then I'd set it up with a good Lyman 48. Seems to me that the 48 has a flange that fits into the receiver bridge dovetail on the 52B.

There are several different models of Lyman 48 for the Winchester Model 52, depending on the era. Some do have the wide dovetail, some not.
