I guess if you could not take it with you, you would have to find a FED EX/KINKOS or PackNShip store in Anniston/Oxford to turn it over to and pay the retail price to have them ship it for you, (as long as they would accept a firearm). Even then you may have to line up a BATF licensed Dealer near you to accept it and you would incur the dealers fee to transfer the weapon.

EDITED: NEVERMIND - Big Red just answered.
Or take it to a US Post Office and ship it home. Be prepared for the bill though as they have to go certain way only. Shipping for one from Florida to Ohio was $63. Both of us left on a Friday and I barely beat it here.

Someone that goes to SS today should give us a report.
Same today and will not change from what was told to me this morning.
Out of the 12 or so FG's today, I did not find one I would pay the 63.00 extra for.
I was told the condition of the FG's in the store will be the norm for awhile.

Wink It will all be OK, you'll see

In spite of the current cost and shipping issues, the rifles sold at the store are generally worth much more than what you pay (not 100% all of the time, but since you get to pick....).
The increased cost will not slow me down much.

Now, the limit on purchase quantity, that is another matter entirely.....

I think I will let the dust settle just a bit before I follow the next guy off the cliff

Gordon/all,

I am passing on verbatim what 4 different people I talked to all said, and all said the same...3 in Anniston (incl CS) and one at Port Clinton.
They share the frustration and are struggling with this as much as anyone, and it appears it is a systemic issue that popped up suddenly, with aggravating factors, and they are working to resolve.

For anyone that has ever worked for the gub-mint, or even a business and dealt with the inevitable SNAFU, you know sometimes *stuff* happens.
And this is obviously one of them that caught them by surprise!
And sometimes there is more going on behind the scenes..much more that can be very complex, especially in an operation like this.

I am in violent agreement that comm could be better on this issue, which is why I tried to get SOME word on it, yet what should be self-obvious 2nd and 3rd level considerations escape some who are quick to the pitch forks for an organization that exemplifies CS, going as far as talk of "rooking" customers without the facts or even an iota of SA!

As others have already leapt (see above), these are wise words my friend. Hopefully others will follow suit as they work through this.
I promise to update with any additional information I am able to get.

I was planning on stopping at the SS on the way to NYC to visit my wife's family in December, I guess those plans are out as I can't take them with me.

I have my doubts that any of this is the fault of CMP. Every government agency in every state is looking for revenue from any and all sources. The sales tax thing is a big issue,
I believe that CMP is caught in the middle.

Amazon just built a huge distribution center in Florida, they were given some pretty attractive tax incentives.

No ax to grind with Amazon, but now all mail orders received in Florida are subject to sales tax. It never used to be that way.

It could be worse. If you've ever had to deal with FEMA you'd know why instead of going grey my hair turned white or disappeared. FEMA and SNAFU in the same sentence is redundant.

But as BR said, better to let the CMP work it out and not lose sleep over it.
