Default Hello from NJ

Hi All,

New to the forum, heading out soon to the North Store to buy my first M1. Can't wait to get one and show my WWII vetern Dad, he'll get a kick out of seeing one again.

Forum is pretty good, trying to get up to speed on M1's. I'm hoping to get a WWII era M1, Servce Grade would be great, but even a Field Grade.

Can't wait to blow through some clips. I shot one a few years ago, my boss had a few and took me shooting. It was fun shooting it so can't wait for my own.

So I'm going to try and time my trip out to the NS when they get a good shipment, only thing I'm not looking forward to is the 10hr drive.

slickM1;

Here's another "welcome to the Forums" for you. As CAL D-9 stated, there is a lot to do and learn here. Lot's of friendly helpful folks here too. Any questions?, just ask away. You may get one, or multiple responses, but you will get your questions answered.

Take care.

Thanks guys.

While I'm here in the newbie section, can I ask a few newbie questions. (starting to read up on various topics, including these forums)

What is 40X = Is that like WWII serial numbered M1's?

What is USGI Wood? = I assume it means stocks from WWII?

It's funny, the acronymn's are like any other hobby or business for that matter, a bit to get to understand.

Thanks
John

slickM1;

What is 40X? = Remington Model 40X Target Rifle

These are single shot, bolt action, rifles that were returned to Army inventory by ROTC and JROTC units and are in similar condition to the 40X rifles we offered several years ago. These rifles are well used, no front or rear sights, metal finish is worn, stocks have dings, dents, gouges. Muzzle sight block and receiver side base included, but other sight blocks may be missing.

What is USGI Wood? = Stock and handguards from WW11.

Many use the term "furniture" in reference to the wood, or the metal parts, ie; Butt plate, lock, lock screw, gas cylinder, etc., etc.

Hope this helps you out some.

Take care and have a great upcoming weekend.
