Were early 1903 stocks without recoil bolts in use during WW1 ? Thank you

The fact that 1903 stocks without recoil bolts exist today indicates that the stocks were "in use" during WWI. Newly-manufactured stocks, however, had two recoil bolts. Stocks on earlier rifles turned in for overhaul had recoil bolts added.
