when i was with the 1/9 one of my best friends was an nbc man and whenever we came back from the field we used the shower in the nbc shed to get the crud out. that was 1984 and i don't remember that practice being authorized in that unit....we may have been gutted if caught.....every body else was at the armory sharing the same chamber brush and bore brush.

What do you mean "used"? Are we not supposed to be cleaning with hot water anymore? I didn't get that memo.

In the 1970s when I was at Ft. Leonard Wood, we would clean our M16 in trash cans filled with hot soapy water kept hot with immersion heaters from the mess hall. The water was so hot that the rifles dried very quickly and then we oiled them with LSA weapons oil. This Forum brings back many good old memories. Thanks
