Getting a rifle that is a “shooter” means different things to different people. If you are wanting to get into JCG matches and target shooting you would benefit from a service grade and a barrel with less wear.

However, if you are mostly a pistol shooter and just want an M1 to have an M1, A rack grade would be something that functions and you could plink around with.

I would personally just keep and eye on this forum every Thursday to see if there are any big shipments then run down the following Friday or Saturday. That is how I picked up my M1 two years ago and an 03A3 last weekend. And yes there will be rifles there during the national matches. I can’t speak to the lines in the morning because I’ve always been on the firing line before they open up.
