Default Great pit stop if your heading to the north store

If you are from south of Ohio heading to the north store in May I would recommend stopping at the Dayton Airforce Museum.

They just rolled in the Memphis Belle and will reveal it and its new exhibit on May 17th.

I live a bit north of Dayton but plan to make the trip down to the museum. I highly recommend it, even the kids have a great time!

Was there about 20 yrs. ago. Great place to visit. Saw BOCKS CAR, which dropped the bomb on Nagasaki. A Blackbird was there plus countless displays including a B36, AF’s largest aircraft. Heard it takes at least 2 days to take it all in now. Highly recommend!

On my next drive back, likely when my Mom passes, I'll need to go there to see things on my way back home since I won't come back east after she goes.

Be careful about firearms left in the vehicle if your coming from the CMP store.

No firearms allowed on base, this includes the museum.

Not trying to start anything. But the Museum is technically not on the base. you can have them in your vehicle but not in the museum

You do not use the base for access to the museum parking lot. I am not making recommendations, just stating fact.

If you always carry a folding pocket knife. Leave it in your car.
They got a little upset with me but allowed me to return to the parking lot to store it.

Fantastic displays of all kinds of aircraft.

Yeah normally security is pretty relaxed, but I have been there once when they made everyone go through metal detectors and had two Airforce MP's there with M4's... I can't remember if there was an event that day or if it was a holiday or what.

I recall seeing notches cut in the forward wing edge of the Blackbird when there years ago. Souvenir hunters I assumed, but maybe espionage. Have to imagine the material covering that craft could still be classified. Just a thought.
