Weed eater twine works also, the bright yellow kind, but careful in gas guns don't chop them off in the chamber.
Basically anything that's highly visible, I've seen #2 pencils before.

During non-match shooting, how often is there a cease-fire for brass cleanup ? At my local range it is about every 30 minutes for target changes and cleanup. At 5 minutes before the cease-fire there is a verbal warning to everyone.

Electronic - Only when someone's brass goes forward of the firing line and they want to keep it. Otherwise, the range does not stop and that brass becomes property of the CMP

Paper (Range 4) - Anytime someone wants a new target put up.

The staff will not call the range cold on their own unless it is for a target malfunction or lightning. Otherwise, it is only because a customer wants his/her brass or a fresh target.

When I'm over there shooting/practicing, I will do ALL of my shooting then request a brass call. The RO will call the range cold and you can retrieve your brass. It only takes 2-3 minutes and no one seems annoyed by it. If I am shooting and someone else requests a brass call I just take a 2-3 minute break while they get their brass. No big deal.

Main thing is safety and some shooter consideration thrown in and it all works out.
