Or got damp in all this rain and swelled under the recoil plate.

Or the plate gap is simply tightened toooooooo much?

Also saw where rear of receiver and trigger group were compressing wood below the recoil plate. Is that normal?

It was the recoil plate. I got another with the same markings from E-bay and shot it today. With the tight one 10 inches high at 11:30 and with the fresh part it was centered up on a 25 yard pistol target at 100 yards. Thanks everyone.
