Try a good, name brand 110 varmint bullet, and a starting load of any appropriate powder. You will get fine accuracy and light recoil. The varmint bullet loads in the .30-06 are way shorter than the heavier bullet loads. Just load to the recommended COAL in the manual and don't worry.

My load is the Sierra 110 with a starting load of IMR-4350.
