In developing loads for the M1 rifle, Id STAY AWAY from using 4350 powder . . . .its much too slow for that gas system . . . .MIGHT damage op-rod.

Actually, I have used it in the M1 but I modified the gas system, so no worry.

Starting load of 4350 behind a 110 is not going to hurt anything.

Hunting load of 4350 behind a 165 is another story.

I'm still waiting to see an op rod damaged by 4350. Someone please show me one.

Varget works for me.

For that 168 sniper load, I recommend h4350. It fills up the case. I'm shooting 55.7 grains of h4350 and 168 smk in bolt actions.

49.5 of varget and 125 grain bullet ( I like the SMK and the speer TNT) shoot good in all my games rifles and a FN 49. I loads hundreds of them at a time, toss them in a 30 cal can, and it feeds whatever I'm shooting that day.

So the Varget load 49.5, on the 125gr function well in the Garand? Will it over pressure with that amount of powder? As I am wanting to possibly use same grains in Varmint or soft point Bullets. Up to the 135 grains as well.

That load will be fine. Only problem I have ever had is erratic ignition in cold conditions. Use a magnum primer and make sure you have enough neck tension. Good Shooting. ...
