Assuming your Garand is chambered in 30-06 and NOT .308, a classic Garand load is 47.0 gr of IMR 4895 with a 150 grain FMJ (Hornady is the best FMJ out there) bullet, any good quality brass resized FULLY, and Win, CCI, or CCI mil-spec primers. Of course, verify this against your loadbooks and observe all reloading precautions. Another classic load is about 46.0 Grains of IMR-4064 with a 168 Sierra Match King.

Don't use any powder slower than IMR 4064 for Garand loads and don't load to the hottest loads listed in your loadbooks. Those loads are for bolt guns and while they are not unsafe in terms of chamber pressure, they may damage the op-rod on the M1. Stay closer to the starting loads. The classic Garand powders are IMR-4895, H-4895, and IMR-4064.

I like 155 and 168 gr Nosler CCs.

      46.5 gr IMR4895 155
      46.0 gr IMR4895 168
      HXP Case
      CCI 34 primer
      OAL 3.30" 155
      OAL 3.32" 168

Great loads in many of my M1s. If using other cases or any cases always start low and ladder up looking and FEELING for over-pressure signatures. No need to work the action too hard. Maximum velocity never equates to optimal accuracy.

Used brass source....the ammunition section of the sales forum here. Always once-fired HXP floating around for sale.

I want to start reloading ammunition for my M1 Garand.
I'm looking for the following data:

          Powder Type and powder load?
          IMR 4064 @ 48.5 grs

          Primer Type?
          CCI-200 LR

          Bullet Type?
155 and 168 gr Nosler CC (Either bullet works well with the 4064 load listed above) Any hunting bullet at the above listed weights.

          Used brass source?
I have a local range and each year just prior to opening day I buy once fired 30-06 brass from the owner (Very cheap) I get 2000 rounds.

          Appreciate your help,
          Thanks

I load a lot of 4064 and seldom have to go past 48 grs with a 150 gr bullet. I would work up to 48.5 carefully with a 165/168 gr bullet. Normally, I find my best accuracy with 165/168's to be in the 46.5 to 47 gr area of 4064.

Don't forget about varget. Varget is a very good powder in the garand.

What ever you load, just work up your loads. If you are just starting, find an experienced reloader in your area to help you learn what you are doing before you make mistakes. NEVER just take loads off the internet and start loading cases.

                Good luck!
