Default Type 3 band problem

I have a carbine which when I tighten up the barrel band screw, about half way the screw slips and the band loosens up. Do I replace the screw or do I replace the complete barrel band which I will have to remove the front sight (which I have never done)?

When assembled, the end of the screw is intentially upset so the screw can't inadvertently be lost, unless some idiot decides to remove it, in which case the female threads of the band are foobarred.

You'll need to replace the complete band.

I have some luck staking around the band nut and then chasing the threads.

Plus one on this ^^^^^^

I did this to an 03-A3 with good results!

Instead of “staking”, I used a blunt punch and lightly gave it a “biff”!

Support the band nut on the other side.

You may be surprised how little it takes to allow good “sinch up”!
