"melted and repurposed?" Am I missing the language that authorizes the transfer other than for historical museum purposes?

Woah missed THAT part. Looks like we shot ourselves in the foot. Someone's sending a clear message changing it from 100,000 pistols to CMP into ALL firearms melted. That's insane. Might have been recent events that influenced that huge 180. Watch it not get vetoed and they make it an act of symbolism melting them down.

The 1911s thing is dead, the 2k that can be transferred to the museums are the only ones that aren't going to be melted down.

So, I guess that pretty much puts all this to bed.

(2) REPURPOSING AND REUSE.—The items specified for transfer under paragraph (1) shall be melted and repurposed for military use as determined by the Secretary of the Army, including—

(A) the re-forging of new firearms or their components; and

(B) force protection barriers and security bollards.

My 1911's just sent up in value. I am sad to read this however. After last week it's going to be hard to argue away from this. Look at how widely this passed....

Unfortunately from what I see in my workplace and community, we've hit a major tipping point in public opinion and I don't know that there will be any recovery.
