I have a Marine rebuild with that punch mark from 1938. Steve Norton confirmed it's likely the punch mark is from the Marine philly depot, applied in that time period.

I wasn't clear in my last post. Your serial dates to 1938, and you may want to post pics of your rifle for show and tell on the bolt action forum.

I may do that! Other than what appears to be a Mk1 Stock do you see any particular reason that mine would stand out?

Just that the receiver punch mark is a clue to a Marine rebuild.
