Default Anyone have SA M1 #270756?

Anybody have Springfield M1 #270756? If so, it has quite a bit of history behind it. It was issued to Sgt. Ray Drulinger of the 157th Infantry, 45th Infantry Division, who was killed in action on Sicily, the first day of the landing, on July 10, 1943.

His mother received the notification of death from the War Department and she sent the following letter (in part) after several letters had gone back and forth from her to the War Department concerning her son's remains:

"Dear Sir; I am writing you in regard to my Son's rifle. He sent me the number (270756). We want to buy this rifle, now or after the war is over...Please advise me about it."

Needless to say, the War Department said it would not be possible at this time.
An interesting bit of history....

(No, I'm not wanting to find it - just interested in the story)

Read the story in the book Buried On the Battlefield: Not My Boy; The Return of the Dead From World War Two by William Beigel.

Checked on USRIFLE but its not listed there either. Chances are real good that it was lost during the war also. Might be worththe $25.00 to see if CMP or DCM ever had it.
