This can't be true! Can it?
4.1.1 ==>and must incorporate the following features; functional forward assist, integral case deflector, functional ejection port cover, MIL-SPEC standard charging handle, and a Picatinny rail located at standard MIL-SPEC height. My emphasis added. This is crazy! |

Just my 2%...… No it isn't.
Firstly the emphasized section is not new, nor (i) which explains the metallic rear sight use. I think they mean on the upper receiver you can not have a raised rail. But I'm not the CMP and I don't pretend to understand their rules...….

Don't worry. They don't understand them either.

An original-style A1 upper fails that rule on multiple counts. Are they really saying you can't shoot a Colt SP1, for example, in Service Rifle?

That's the way it reads. I don't (can't) believe that was their intent, but that's the way it reads.

Your emphasized part only applies to flattops.
As far as A1s, I've always been told it isn't legal, but if it's floated and someone knows their front sight adjustments, I ain't protesting. It's as much a service rifle as the A2, M14, and M1.

At Camp Perry, I got popped for having the sling draped the wrong way over my arm in off hand. I had an almost clean score but the guy to my right was PO'd because I beat him and they challenged. Sling wasn't tight but rules said "Must be Free hanging".
This was back in 1998 and I am still ********ed to this day. Through the rest of my game off. So what is it? The rules or my (or who ever's) interpretations. Used to be lots of anal people back in the day. |

My suggestion to you is if you are struggling with the rules now as you did in the past, go to some local matches and get a good feel for what is allowed and not. In other words if you were frustrated by the rules in 1998 at Perry, you will end up frustrated at Perry in 2019.

Later on in the paragraph it reads:
"...and fixed or collapsible stocks must appear essentially the same as the M16 service rifle..." Sounds like the old CAR-style stock is the only thing that passes muster, now. |
