An accurate M1 will club them like baby seals.

Go ahead and run them.

IMOP they shouldn't allow any optics in MM Match, Iron sight M4 / M16 / A2 type ARs only. A good stock A2 clone with good handloads would whip everything but it would be more fairer.

CMP wants max participation and since pretty much everyone has some sort of Wactical Tactical AR they will allow them in MM, not everyone has a FAL, HK91/93, FN49 , Galil, Sig 550 etc etc...

So...what would I do now if I wanted to see how my old 60's Yugo SKS stacked up against other vintage semi-autos now, for example?
I know it'll get blown away by more modern rifles...would still have a blast though
Just would like a better chance is all.

I'd enjoy running a MAS49/56 and/or my AG42 in a "Vintage Gas Rifle" class. Would be interesting and get some rifles out of their gun safe resting places.

With the new KTS electronic targets, the CMP could add another classification and have the time during Games Matches to do so. JCG "A" Course of fire, run on the same Line.... GSVMM & VG (Vintage Gas).

I've shot the past seven Eastern Games, every rifle match each time. That's typically been two matches per day. This year, the efficiency of the KTS, gave me a lot of "slack time". I actually was done each day by 2:00 or 3:00, and wasn't beat up and worn out. I'd shoot another rifle match if it meant I could get another safe queen out of storage.

Update... CMP posted on their Facebook page about the Vintage Milsurp match and I posted a question there regarding the Vintage Semis.

This was the response..

"please send an email to our Chief Operating Officer, Mark Johnson, at [email protected]. He will provide you with a permission statement so you can use your semi auto. Ironically, you are the first person to ask this question so there may be others wanting to shoot as well. Thank you!"

I find it hard to believe I'm the first person to ask about it...but if you want Vintage Semi autos to be allowed... post up so they can hear your opinion..

Interesting this topic comes up more offen now. I think the solution is fairly simple as others have said. Have MM class A and B rifles compete separately and remove scopes from B class unless that's how the rifle was normally issued (and possibly add post war bolt guns to B group?). Only other thing I'd suggest is to put M16/M16A1/M16A2 as issued (retro) configured rifles (e.g. penile/Nato contour barrels, triangle/round hand-guards, single stage trigger, no free-float, no scopes, etc.) into group B. Class A would be for all other AR type modern rifles (few limitations), which achieves CPMs goal of getting more participation from new folks, simplifies the class A rules a bunch, and keeps a spot for post war (WWII/Korea?) as-issued vintage connoisseurs. Now if there was only a way to get the rules committee to consider...
