Default S'G' Carbine Question

I have a friend who has what I believe is an
S'G' carbine. Its serial number, 1826xxx, is shown
to be assigned to S'G'. The question is that only
the G has the G'. I can't see it on the S.

Think it is just a light strike? Anyone ever heard
of this before?

Thanks for the help

Yes, I have seen that kind of marking quite a few times. Barrel is likely an Underwood, maybe somewhere in the 8-43 range? Sounds like a legitimate S'G' to me. You can tell it from a Saginaw S.G. receiver as the S'G' receiver will have the tooling hole at the bottom left side of the receiver and will have the narrow tang that fits into the recoil plate instead of the wide tang seen on Saginaw S.G. receivers.

I have 3594407 which is similarly marked with a Buffalo Arms barrel marked 9/1943.

Nice to know there are others out there.
